Between
Gary Cooper’s Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
and Adam Sandler’s Mr. Deeds, there
are many similarities and differences. Both the movies start out with
portraying Mr. Deeds living in a small town where everybody knows everybody and
Mr. Deeds is famous for something whether its being the lead tuba player in the
small town’s band or owning the town’s local pizza joint.
Both movies, in their own way, also portray deep
hard and cold betrayal and rejection that then later turns to light soft and
warm love and romance. However, their differences vary. Between Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and Mr. Deeds, Gary Cooper’s Mr. Deeds and
Adam Sandler’s Mr. Deeds have it all. So let’s start with the beginning and
start comparing and contrasting from there. Gary Cooper’s Mr. Deeds (as I have said
before) was the lead tuba player in the town’s band. However Adam Sandler’s Mr.
Deeds owned the town’s pizza joint. Another difference is that both movies have
totally different casts of characters and lead roles.
Some similarities are that they both take place
through fall to winter. Another similarity is that they both have a Mr. Deeds
(of course) and both have a young and beautiful Babe Bennet. They both also
have the same hilarious story line; rising action, plot, and falling action.
In my opinion, I liked the one with Adam Sandler the
most and not just because it is more modern and in color, but because the cast
of actors have a tendency to hold my attention better.
